Men's college basketball enters a rebirth era as power‑conference rosters shift faster than ever. Around a dozen teams return only a handful of players, a pattern driven by the transfer portal and salary cap constraints. The three all‑time leaders—Kansas, Kentucky and North Carolina—have each lost a core group after early exits from the NCAA tournament.

Kansas faces its toughest rebuild under Bill Self. Six players entered the portal, including All‑Big12 forward Flory Bidunga and senior wings Melvin Council Jr. and Tre White. The most costly loss is Bryson Tiller, who started 31 games and now commits to Missouri. The Jayhawks still keep Kohl Rosario and a fresh‑man‑class led by five‑star guard Taylen Kinney.

Kentucky’s overhaul starts with the departure of Otega Oweh and Denzel Aberdeen, while Jayden Quaintance heads to the NBA. Six other players, including Collin Chandler and frontcourt mainstays Andrija Jelavic, left via the portal. Coach Mark Pope has signed Washington transfer Zoom Diallo and Furman guard Alex Wilkins, adding 15.7 points and 4.5 assists experience to a squad that still retains center Malachi Moreno.

North Carolina’s shake‑up follows the coaching change that saw Hubert Davis depart and Michael Malone arrive. Nine players entered the portal, with Derek Dixon and Luka Bogavac withdrawing to stay. The only guaranteed starter is Jarin Stevenson, who averaged 10.7 points and 6.4 rebounds last season. Malone has added Virginia Tech transfer Neoklis Avdalas, a 6‑foot‑9 guard who could anchor the Tar Heels if he remains.
