Mikel Arteta has downplayed the severity of Bruno Guimarães' groin injury after the £75 million summer signing missed Arsenal's 3-0 Premier League opener against Coventry City at Emirates Stadium. The Brazilian midfielder was forced off during last weekend's Community Shield win over Manchester City and was pictured with ice on his right leg. "We expect that not to be weeks at all," Arteta said. "Let's see how he evolves this week. He didn't even want to stop. He wanted to carry on."

Goals from Kai Havertz, Bukayo Saka and Martin Ødegaard secured a comfortable victory. Arteta also praised fellow new signing Christos Tzolis, who impressed on his home debut after a £34m move from Club Brugge. The winger won possession for Havertz's opener and assisted Saka's goal before receiving an ovation when substituted after 76 minutes.

"I love that a player that has been with us just for a few weeks gets this kind of energy," Arteta said. "What he transmits as a player is so direct, so incisive, constantly." The manager expressed satisfaction with the team's start to their title defence against well-prepared opposition.
