Britain's Charlotte Henshaw has won her 12th Para-canoe World Championship title less than two weeks after being in hospital with cellulitis. The 39-year-old contracted the bacterial infection in her leg, which caused painful, hot, and swollen skin, and was unable to train on the water before the championships in Poznan, Poland. Despite this, she won the KL2 200m final by more than three seconds, securing her eighth world title in the event and adding to her four VL3 titles.

Henshaw said the victory meant the most because she did not know she would be competing a week earlier. She credited her experience and trust in her body for overcoming the setback. A double leg amputee and three-time Paralympic champion since switching from swimming in 2017, Henshaw reflected on her Instagram that the health scare put results into perspective, emphasizing limb health over rankings.

Elsewhere in Poznan, teammate Hope Gordon won gold in the KL3 200m, claiming her first world title in the class after two VL3 wins, while Stuart Wood took bronze in the men's VL3 event. Gordon had recently represented Scotland in Para-powerlifting at the Commonwealth Games.
