Man City in Talks to Sign Gakpo from Liverpool

Manchester City have opened talks with Liverpool to sign Cody Gakpo, according to BBC Sport. Liverpool view the Dutch forward as a proven multi-functional Premier League attacker, evidenced by a goal and an assist in their first two games this season. However, the club's stance has been that they would not block a departure if they secured their own attacking targets and a solid offer arrived.

With the transfer window nearing its close, Liverpool will now consider the situation before sanctioning any move. The Reds are also hoping to bring in another winger before deadline day. Following the arrival of Victor Munoz, the emergence of Rio Ngumoha, and Bradley Barcola's imminent move from PSG, Gakpo is aware he may no longer be first choice.

Financially, a deal around £85m would represent a significant profit on the £35m paid to PSV Eindhoven in 2022. Yet, with Hugo Ekitike ruled out until 2027 due to a ruptured Achilles tendon and injury concerns surrounding other targets, Liverpool would be taking a massive risk letting Gakpo leave.
