Former Wolves and Nottingham Forest striker Rafael Mir was handed an eight and a half year prison term after a Valencia court found him guilty of sexual assault. The 28‑year‑old, who was on loan from Sevilla at the time, faced charges alongside friend Pablo Jara.

Investigators traced the incidents to Mir’s home in Betera, where two women claimed he assaulted them in a swimming pool and bathroom after meeting them at a Valencia nightclub. Mir maintained the acts were consensual, but the court rejected his defense.

Mir’s sentence includes a 64,000 euros compensation order to the victim and a separate seven‑year term for bodily harm. The forward, who has played for clubs such as Wolves, Sevilla, and Elche, now faces a legal battle that will sideline him from the sport.

Sevilla issued a statement condemning the conduct, saying it conflicts with the values promoted by sport. Mir’s appeal will determine whether the verdict stands, but the club’s stance signals zero tolerance for such behavior.
