Manchester City midfielder Phil Foden has signed a new four‑year contract, extending his stay with the club until 2030. The deal confirms the club’s confidence in his talent and future role within the squad. Foden has spent his entire career at City, playing under Pep Guardiola since the former manager’s departure in May. He was part of the squad that achieved the 2022‑23 Treble, and his performances the following season saw him record a career‑high 27 goals and 12 assists.

However, the next two seasons have seen a dip in his statistical output as City’s tactical approach has shifted. With newer wingers Jeremy Doku and Antoine Semenyo feeding striker Erling Haaland, and Rayan Cherki often preferred as a playmaker, Foden has occasionally dropped deeper, limiting his goal‑scoring and play‑making opportunities. He finished last season with seven goals and five assists in 33 Premier League games, and the campaign before that with seven goals and two assists in 28 matches. This change has also affected his confidence on the field.

After being omitted from Tuchel’s World Cup squad, the Professional Footballers’ Association noted that Foden’s form had been affected by the packed fixture schedule, saying he had not been the version seen two years prior. The club remains committed to supporting his development.
