Lawrence Shankland has been appointed the new captain of Rangers, a role he described as exceeding his lifelong dream of playing for his boyhood club. The striker, who joined Rangers two months ago from Hearts, previously captained his former team, where he scored 88 goals in 171 appearances.

Shankland succeeds James Tavernier, who captained Rangers for 11 years, leading them to a Europa League final and multiple domestic trophies. The announcement comes just two days before Rangers begin their league campaign against Dundee United.

"To get the opportunity to captain the club is a huge honour," Shankland stated. He emphasized his commitment to leading by example on and off the pitch, aiming to foster a culture of leadership within the squad, supported by other experienced players like Dan Neil and Ben Godfrey.
