Rangers have secured Lawrence Shankland from Hearts on a two-year deal running until 2028, with an option for a further year. The 30-year-old striker scored 20 goals across all competitions last season, including 16 in the Scottish Premiership, as Hearts narrowly missed out on the league title on the final day.

Shankland returns to Ibrox as a boyhood Rangers supporter, having started his career at Queen's Park before spells with Aberdeen, Ayr United and Dundee United. He netted 28 goals to fire Dundee United back to the top flight, then scored 24 league goals in his first two seasons at Hearts. The transfer activates on June 15 and uses a clause from his previous deal, with the fee undisclosed.

Rangers head coach Danny Rohl praised Shankland's leadership and goalscoring record, calling him a player with 'proven quality.' The striker will join up with the squad after Scotland World Cup duty in the USA. His arrival addresses Rangers' need for a new captain following James Tavernier's exit.

Hearts lose their talisman who scored 88 goals in 171 appearances. The Edinburgh club faces a significant challenge replacing their captain and leading scorer. Rangers have also shown interest in Dundee defender Luke Graham and Sunderland midfielder Dan Neil as they rebuild for next season.
