Red Bull team principal Laurent Mekies confirmed that Max Verstappen's persistent complaint about car performance degradation during sessions cannot be fully resolved until the 2027 regulations overhaul. Verstappen has criticized the RB22 as "a car made of paper" after qualifying struggles at Monza, noting he has raised this issue internally for years. Mekies acknowledged the problem is complex and not new, stating Red Bull has made "small steps" in understanding it, with positive signs at the Madrid race.

However, budget cap constraints and the shift toward 2027 development limit fixes for the current RB22. Mekies admitted the degradation costs "serious lap time" and may recur in remaining 2025 races. Verstappen, who has won at least one Grand Prix every year since his 2016 Red Bull promotion, now faces the prospect of a winless season for the first time since 2015 with Toro Rosso.
