Mercedes will unveil its next major Formula 1 upgrade package at the upcoming Malaysian Grand Prix, aiming to recapture pole position contention. The Silver Arrows lead the 2026 championship by 145 points over Ferrari, yet their last significant update arrived in Montreal in May. While Mercedes secured the first six races of the season, it has since won only four of the last eight as Ferrari and McLaren have closed the gap with aggressive development programs.

The team hasn't claimed pole since Kimi Antonelli was quickest at Spa in July, with Lando Norris taking three consecutive poles. Engineering director Andrew Shovlin noted that Baku offers limited upgrade potential, but Malaysia's circuit should suit their car's strengths. Despite recent wins at Monza and Madrid, Mercedes acknowledges the competition has intensified, with qualifying margins now decided by mere tenths of a second.
