Racing Bulls F1 car upgrade decided by driver battle

Racing Bulls faced a decision on which car would receive a crucial cooling upgrade for the Belgian Grand Prix, as only one chassis could be modified in time. Team principal Alan Permane presented two options to drivers Liam Lawson and Arvid Lindblad: upgrade neither car for Spa and both for Budapest, or have the drivers compete for the single upgrade.

The drivers enthusiastically chose the latter. The competition was set: whoever qualified higher at Silverstone would receive the upgrade. Both drivers made it to Q3, but Lindblad secured ninth place, while Lawson qualified tenth. Consequently, Lindblad earned the upgrade for Spa.

Permane indicated that this method of deciding upgrades would not be repeated. He stated that if a similar situation arises later in the season, Lawson would automatically receive priority. This approach was intended to add an element of fun and competition, rather than simply assigning the upgrade. Racing Bulls has seen an improvement in form since a significant upgrade introduced in Montreal.
