Western Digital took the wraps off its refreshed G-DRIVE professional storage lineup at Computex 2026, marking the latest evolution since the brand unified its offerings in February. The company brought a comprehensive range of external storage solutions spanning desktop to rackmount configurations, targeting content creators and professionals who demand high-capacity, reliable storage.

At the high end, the G-DRIVE 8 delivers up to 224 TB across eight bays with hardware RAID, while the G-DRIVE 4 offers 80 TB in a more compact four-bay design. Both models feature Thunderbolt 5 connectivity, support daisy-chaining up to six devices, and include e-ink displays for drive status. These premium units target users handling massive media files who need redundancy and fast transfer speeds.

The lineup scales down to the dual-bay G-DRIVE 2 with 56 TB capacity and the entry-level G-DRIVE 1 supporting 28 TB Ultrastar HDDs. For portability, the G-DRIVE ArmorATD provides up to 6 TB in a rugged aluminum enclosure with IP54 protection. Western Digital plans to ship the desktop models in late 2026 with the higher-end units following in early 2027.

This unified approach simplifies Western Digital's professional storage portfolio while incorporating modern connectivity standards. The Thunderbolt 5 support positions these drives for next-generation workflows, though the staggered release timing means professionals will need to wait for the most capable options.
