VESA has introduced DisplayHDR True Black 1400, a new certification for advanced OLED displays. This standard targets professional content creation and premium HDR viewing, recognizing improvements in OLED technology that deliver higher brightness while maintaining deep blacks.

This new tier requires displays to reach a peak luminance of 1400 cd/m² and sustain 700 cd/m² full-screen brightness. Crucially, it maintains extremely low black levels, as low as 0.0005 cd/m², a hallmark of OLED performance. This advancement is driven by technologies like tandem OLED architectures, enabling greater luminance without compromising contrast.

The first products certified to DisplayHDR True Black 1400 will be shown at Bilibili World 2026 in Shanghai, China, from July 10-12. Lenovo's Yoga Pro 16 is noted as the first notebook PC to achieve this certification. This standard aims to give creators and consumers confidence in certified displays for demanding HDR workflows and immersive entertainment.
