LG Display OLED Panels Earn First-Ever Perfect Color/Brightness Certification

LG Display announced that its entire lineup of large-sized OLED panels for monitors and TVs has become the world's first to receive "Perfect Color/Brightness Accuracy up to 500 lux" certification from Intertek. This validates that the displays can accurately reproduce both color and brightness regardless of viewing conditions or content type.

The certification addresses limitations in traditional display quality assessment methods, which relied on color gamut or peak luminance specifications. Intertek conducted comprehensive testing using various test patterns to measure color and brightness variations objectively. LG Display's OLED panels achieved 100% color accuracy, 100% brightness accuracy, and color crosstalk-free performance simultaneously, delivering creators' intended visuals accurately across all environments.

LCD displays showed notable limitations during testing, particularly with HDR content like starry night skies or fireworks where brightness in highlighted areas diminished. Some premium LCD TVs using RGB LED backlights also exhibited color distortion depending on background colors. These differences stem from fundamental light emission methods - LCDs control light through backlights causing light leakage, while OLED uses self-emissive pixels that eliminate interference.

This certification positions LG Display to lead global picture quality competition by quantifying real-world viewing experiences. "LG Display's OLED has now been objectively proven to deliver the most accurate color and brightness even in everyday viewing environments," said Hyeon-woo Lee, Head of the Large Display Business Unit. The company plans to leverage this achievement to strengthen market leadership worldwide.
