Lenovo Group Limited (HKSE: 992) has wrapped up its purchase of Phoenix Technologies' firmware arm in Dublin, Ireland. By bringing firmware development under its own roof, the company gains tighter control over the core BIOS layer that runs across its ThinkPad lineup and future AI‑enabled gadgets.

For more than two decades, Phoenix has supplied BIOS firmware to Lenovo, collaborating closely with silicon vendors worldwide. The deal extends that partnership, letting Lenovo tap the vendor’s expertise to speed innovation, tighten security, and trim costs. The transaction closed after standard conditions were met, though financial terms remain undisclosed for the industry today still.

Luca Rossi, Lenovo’s Intelligent Devices Group president, framed the acquisition as a move to deepen vertical integration. By internalizing firmware, the firm can align hardware, software, and security tighter than ever before. This shift also signals Lenovo’s intent to fortify its product ecosystem against supply‑chain vulnerabilities that have plagued the sector for its future success.

With the deal closed, Lenovo will roll out enhanced BIOS features across its ThinkPad series and potentially other devices, promising smoother updates and stronger resilience against firmware attacks. The acquisition also positions the company to offer more integrated solutions to OEM partners, solidifying its role as a leading player in the PC hardware arena today.
