Ubisoft has reportedly canceled one of its two planned Far Cry projects, an extraction shooter codenamed "Maverick." In its place, a new game codenamed "Kodiak" has entered production.

Kodiak will utilize the development foundation of Maverick but will shift away from the extraction shooter genre. Instead, it is described as an open-world FPS that will emphasize "player interactions and player-driven stories."

While the specifics of both "Kodiak" and the other rumored Far Cry title, likely "Far Cry 7" (codenamed "Blackbird"), remain scarce, both are understood to be in development at Vantage Studios. This studio is also working on other major titles such as Rainbow Six and Assassin's Creed: Hexe. The shift with "Kodiak" and hints about "Far Cry 7" suggest potential changes to the established Far Cry formula.
