Another Far Cry game is officially in development at Ubisoft's Vantage Studios, codenamed Kodiak. This new title will adhere to the franchise's established open-world FPS format, emphasizing player interactions and emergent storytelling.

While Kodiak progresses, a previously developed extraction shooter title, codenamed Maverick, has been canceled. Ubisoft plans to incorporate elements from Maverick into the Kodiak project, though not the extraction shooter genre itself. The new game is described as "really ambitious" and is reportedly several years away from release.

This development comes as the next mainline Far Cry entry, potentially Far Cry 7 and codenamed Blackbird, is also still being worked on. Fans have not seen a new mainline game since 2021, but the franchise's future includes both new game developments and a forthcoming TV show.
