Kioxia XL1 Series CXL Memory Expansion for AI

TechPowerUp News •

Kioxia Corporation will showcase the Kioxia XL1 series, a Compute Express Link (CXL) compatible memory expansion module, at the Kioxia booth during August 4-6 in Santa Clara, CA at FMS: the Future of Memory and Storage. The product features XL-FLASH, a low‑latency, high‑performance flash memory technology that enables flash to serve as a memory expansion solution for demanding AI workloads. By integrating XL‑FLASH with a CXL interface, the XL1 series improves DRAM utilization efficiency, moving less‑frequently accessed data to the module and bridging the performance‑cost gap between conventional DRAM and SSDs. This addresses the growing memory demand driven by AI applications, which have created capacity shortages and rising costs in hyperscale data centers. Evaluation samples are scheduled for shipment to industry collaborators in August 2026. Note that the samples are for evaluation only; some functions may not be fully tested, and specifications are subject to change.

The XL1 series represents Kioxia’s response to the market need for innovative memory expansion in hyperscale environments, offering a scalable solution that balances performance and cost for next‑generation AI workloads.
