Kioxia rolled out the EG7 series, its inaugural client‑grade SSD built on the company’s BiCS FLASH generation 8 4‑bit‑per‑cell QLC memory. By matching TLC‑class performance while cutting component costs, the drives target budget‑focused ultrabooks, consumer notebooks and entry‑level desktops, and aligns with the industry's shift toward higher‑density flash.

Performance figures list up to 1,000 KIOPS random read/write, 7,000 MB/s sequential reads and 6,200 MB/s writes, all over a PCIe 4.0 interface with NVMe 2.0d support. The DRAM‑less design leans on Host Memory Buffer technology, borrowing system RAM to keep power draw low, and supports low‑latency gaming workloads. Capacities span 512 GB to 2 TB and the drives ship in M.2 2230, 2242 and 2280 footprints, with TCG Opal 2.02 self‑encryption built‑in.

Kioxia has begun sampling the EG7 line to a handful of PC makers, with volume shipments slated for the second quarter of 2026. By offering QLC performance at TLC‑grade speeds, the series lets integrators trim bill‑of‑materials budgets while maintaining the responsiveness required for everyday workloads. Early adopters will see immediate cost savings on thin‑and‑light platforms, benefiting both manufacturers and end users alike.
