Lenovo Legion Go S price jump pushes rivals ahead

Lenovo has raised the price of its Legion Go S handhelds, turning what was marketed as a budget option into a premium proposition. The Z1 Extreme model, equipped with a Ryzen Z1 Extreme APU, 32 GB RAM and a 1 TB SSD, now lists for $1,579.99 on SteamOS and $1,679.99 with Windows, though the Windows version temporarily shows a discounted $1,049.99.

The lower‑spec Z2 Go variant, featuring a Ryzen Z2 Go chip, 16 GB RAM and a 512 GB SSD, climbs to $989.99 at Best Buy, while Lenovo’s own site lists the SteamOS version at $1,049.99. Those figures push the Go S above the original Legion Go’s used price and narrow the gap with competing handhelds.

At $899.99, the ASUS ROG Ally X now appears a more attractive alternative, offering comparable performance without the steep price tag. Consumers facing the inflated Go S must decide whether to splurge on Lenovo’s premium specs or switch to rivals that deliver similar gaming experiences for less.

The sudden hikes echo the broader “RAMpocalypse” trend that has pushed component costs across the industry, forcing manufacturers to adjust retail prices. For handheld enthusiasts, the revised pricing may shrink the market share of Lenovo’s device and accelerate adoption of other AMD‑based competitors, reshaping the portable PC gaming segment.
