G.SKILL has started distributing settlement payments to customers affected by a $2.4 million class-action lawsuit. The lawsuit, filed in 2022, alleged that G.SKILL misled buyers of DDR4 and DDR5 memory kits regarding achievable speeds. Customers were reportedly not adequately informed that maximum speeds required Intel's XMP or AMD's EXPO overclocking profiles.

The lawsuit specifically targeted G.SKILL's Trident Z and Ripjaws series memory kits. Plaintiffs claimed the company failed to warn consumers about risks associated with memory overclocking, including system instability and potential hardware damage. G.SKILL initially defended its labeling practices but eventually settled the case earlier this year.

Eligible consumers are those who purchased G.SKILL DDR4 kits rated over 2,133 MT/s or DDR5 kits rated over 4,800 MT/s between January 31, 2018, and January 7, 2026. Individual payout amounts vary based on the number of kits and specifications purchased, with reported payments ranging from $19.68 to $24.60.

As part of the settlement, G.SKILL is updating its packaging, product listings, and advertising to clearly indicate that maximum memory speeds require overclocking through XMP or EXPO technology.
