Samsung Display has begun full-scale supply of tandem OLED panels for laptops that meet VESA DisplayHDR True Black 1400, a new certification tier requiring black levels of 0.0005 nits or lower and peak brightness of 1,400 nits at 10% On Pixel Ratio. The new tier raises peak brightness requirements by 40% compared to True Black 1000. Samsung Display's tandem OLED panel can reach peak brightness of up to 1,600 nits at the panel level, more than 40% higher than conventional single-stack OLED panels.

The tandem architecture stacks two organic emissive layers to improve light efficiency and achieve higher brightness while extending lifespan. Under typical laptop operating conditions, the panel offers more than twice the lifespan of conventional single-stack OLED. Samsung Display is supplying these panels to global PC manufacturers, with the Lenovo Yoga Pro 9i Aura Edition already certified. ASUS, Dell Technologies, and MSI are expected to launch True Black 1400 products from the second half of this year through next year.

Samsung Display will showcase the panel at K-Display 2026 in Seoul from July 22 to 24, featuring it in the "Ultimate Performance Showcase" zone with video content for creator use cases.
