GPD Box Mini PC and G2 eGPU Pack MCIO 8i for 512 Gbps Bandwidth

GPD has unveiled its new Box mini PC and G2 eGPU, both sporting the MCIO 8i connector that delivers significantly faster external PCIe connectivity than traditional ports. The Box is a Panther Lake-based mini PC that replaces USB4 or Thunderbolt 5 with the MCIO 8i, capable of full PCIe 5.0 ×8 bandwidth for gaming and AI workloads.

That MCIO ×8 port theoretically reaches up to 512 Gbps, though it's limited to 256 Gbps bidirectional on PCIe Gen 5. Beyond the new connector, the Box offers dual USB Type-A and Type-C ports, a 3.5mm audio jack, DisplayPort, HDMI, and dual Ethernet. One caveat: MCIO was designed for servers where hardware gets plugged in far less frequently, raising questions about port durability in consumer use.

The G2 eGPU connects via USB4 v2.0 or MCIO 8i, and GPD claims it runs an NVIDIA RTX 4090 with only 2% performance loss—a level Thunderbolt 5 and OCuLink cannot match. The dock includes dual USB Type-A ports, USB4 with 100W PD charging, a built-in PCIe SSD slot, and an on-board PSU with a 12v-2×6 cable.

Pricing and availability remain unannounced, though the Weibo announcement lists 2026 as the release date.
