ASUS Revises PCIe Q-Release Design Again

ASUS has revised its Q-Release Slim PCIe mechanism for the upcoming 2026 motherboard lineup, bringing back a physical button to release graphics cards. The company explains the change stems from user confusion over its earlier buttonless design, which allowed GPUs to be removed by simply pulling them from the slot.

The original mechanism, launched on high-end X870 boards, was quietly updated in March 2025 after reports it caused scratches on GPU PCIe contacts. The new design aims to address those concerns while simplifying the process for users who prefer a more familiar, tactile release method.

This revision will appear across all new ASUS Neo series motherboards, from the affordable TUF Gaming B850-Pro to the flagship ROG Crosshair X870E Glacial. The move reflects a broader industry trend where motherboard makers balance innovation with proven, user-friendly features after early adopter feedback.
