AMD Revives Zen2/Zen+ Architectures for Budget Processors in 2026

AMD has resurrected its Zen2 and Zen+ architectures with three new processors targeting OEM and entry-level markets. The Ryzen 7 4700LE leads the lineup as an eight-core, 16-thread CPU with a 3.6 GHz base clock and 4.2 GHz boost, all within a 65 W TDP envelope. Built for AM4 sockets and marked as OEM-only, this processor notably omits integrated graphics unlike typical desktop APUs.

The Ryzen 5 3501U and Ryzen 3 3100U join the roster as Picasso-based mobile chips using the older Zen+ architecture. Both feature Radeon Vega 8 integrated graphics with eight compute units at 1,200 MHz and support DDR4-2400 memory. AMD rates these processors at a configurable 15 W TDP, adjustable between 12 W and 35 W to match system design requirements.

These releases represent AMD's strategy to address cost-sensitive segments without investing in new silicon. By leveraging existing architectures, the company can offer competitive pricing for budget notebooks and embedded applications. The Q2 2026 timeline suggests a calculated move to maintain market presence across all price points while newer Ryzen processors command premium positioning.

No pricing details have emerged yet, leaving questions about how these chips will compete against Intel's budget offerings. The absence of integrated graphics on the 4700LE particularly limits its appeal to mainstream consumers.
