AMD has unveiled its Kintex UltraScale+ Gen 2 FPGA family, targeting demanding, data-intensive workloads. These FPGAs are designed for applications like 4K/8K media workflows, high-throughput test and measurement, and advanced imaging. This new generation builds upon the legacy of the Kintex FPGA portfolio, offering enhanced memory, I/O, and security features for various industries.

Key improvements include increased memory bandwidth and higher channel density per PCIe interface. These advancements translate to higher throughput and lower latency, crucial for real-time processing. The devices also boast enhanced security features such as bitstream encryption and anti-cloning protections, which are vital for regulated and long-lived systems.

AMD is also providing a clear migration path with Spartan UltraScale+ FPGAs, allowing designers to start developing now. Simulation support for the Vivado and Vitis tools is slated for Q3 2026, with pre-production silicon sampling in Q4 2026. Production is expected in the first half of 2027, ensuring long-term availability for supported markets.

This launch underscores AMD's continued investment in the FPGA market. Competitors like Intel also offer FPGA solutions, and this announcement reflects the ongoing competition in providing adaptable silicon solutions across various industries. The Kintex UltraScale+ Gen 2 FPGAs aim to provide a competitive edge with their blend of performance, security, and longevity.
