Deal Activity & Sector Focus

Private equity dealmaking showed continued activity across diverse sectors, with several firms making strategic add-on acquisitions. Fort Point Capital injected capital to recapitalize environmental services provider Boston Green, while Bain Capital took a stake in climate technology firm Duravent Group, which already counted Egeria as an existing backer. In healthcare, the combination of Paratek and Radius Health, backed by B-Flexion Life Sciences, was supported by a substantial $1.3 billion financing package led by Blackstone Credit & Insurance, illustrating continued appetite for consolidation in the life sciences space. Elsewhere, ICG backed Italian railway maintenance provider Comcreta to capitalize on accelerating infrastructure investment in the region, and PE-backed Tech24 expanded its footprint in commercial foodservice equipment repair by acquiring Pacific Standard Service.

Secondaries & Fundraising Milestones

The secondaries market is witnessing a shift in focus away from technology, according to Houlihan Lokey, as managers see a boost in interest for other sectors reacting to digital disruption. This movement towards less saturated areas contrasts with large continuation vehicle (CV) activity, such as HarbourVest leading a massive $1.1 billion CV for Azurity Pharmaceuticals to extend QHP Capital’s hold. In the fundraising arena, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development committed $40 million toward the Templeton Türkiye private equity fund, which has a target size of $300 million, signalling institutional interest in emerging European markets despite broader liquidity concerns that are causing other US pensions to slash allocations.

Talent Moves & Governance

Key personnel shifts signal strategic repositioning among established firms. Former CVC Managing Director Jonathan Au joined Revelation Partners after departing CVC last year, while Kain Capital announced the appointment of Sameer Mathur as partner and Bridie Gahan as strategy VP, with Mathur previously serving at Chicago Pacific Founders. On the institutional governance side, the UK’s Border to Coast pension pool, which manages an asset portfolio slated to grow to £110 billion, finalized its alternatives leadership team by hiring a lead portfolio manager for private equity, credit, and climate mandates.

Thematic & Climate Investing

Specialized capital is flowing into climate technology and sustainable agriculture ventures. BNP Paribas Asset Management Alts invested in Farm Carbon, a vehicle established by Sistema to scale methane reduction initiatives within the agricultural sector. Separately, Idealist led a C$50 million growth equity investment alongside the Canada Growth Fund into sustainable agriculture company Solugen. Furthermore, EQT and the World Bank provided backing to the 'flying ferry' startup Candela, with Candela raising €30 million to finance a global rollout of its electric watercraft technology.

Exits and Large-Scale Transactions

Major portfolio companies are preparing for significant liquidity events, though the path remains complex. KKR, Silver Lake, and General Atlantic are positioned to pursue partial exits as Reliance Jio prepares for a highly anticipated $4 billion initial public offering. Meanwhile, TDR Capital and I Squared Capital are reportedly exploring options, including a potential IPO and stake sale, for their energy services portfolio company Aggreko, which carries an estimated valuation of $15 billion. In a testament to the strength of specialized portfolio performance, JC Flowers won an award for its Small-Cap Europe Deal of the Year, while HIG was recognized for its Koozie exit in North America.

Technology & AI Applications

While some secondaries managers caution against pure tech exposure, venture and growth capital remains focused on applying AI across specific verticals. Founders from Palantir launched a new venture after raising $30 million, securing validation from Sequoia Capital. In healthcare AI, Index Ventures backed YC alum Parallel with a $20 million Series A to deploy AI agents in hospital settings. Meanwhile, Sequen secured $16 million in Series A funding to commercialize its proprietary AI ranking technology, aiming to bring TikTok-style personalization to large consumer businesses. Outside of direct AI plays, Pophouse Entertainment acquired majority ownership, alongside BMG, in the music interests of icon Tina Turner, demonstrating high-value acquisitions in intellectual property assets.
