Manchester United's Jack Fletcher has issued an apology after being sanctioned by the Football Association for using an anti-gay slur during an October match. The 18-year-old was handed a six-game ban, with two games already served following a red card, and four suspended games for the FA's 'Aggravated Breach.'

Fletcher, son of former United player Darren Fletcher, was heard directing the term 'gay boy' at an opponent during United under-21s' 5-2 defeat against Barnsley in the Carabao Cup. Both the FA and Fletcher's opponent concluded he had no intention to be anti-gay. Manchester United confirmed the player immediately apologized and stated he did not intend to use the term as an anti-gay insult.

The club announced Fletcher will strengthen his understanding of discriminatory language through additional educational training. United emphasized their commitment to inclusion, referencing their All Red All Equal initiative launched in 2016. The teenager, who joined United in 2023 from Manchester City, has made three Premier League appearances this season as a substitute.
