Germany’s 18‑year‑old midfielder Lennart Karl was rushed to a hospital after a training injury on Friday, forcing coach Julian Nagelsmann to question his availability for the World Cup. Karl, who scored Bayern Munich’s first Champions League goal as a teenager, has already earned three caps for the national side in the last 12 months sofar.

Nagelsmann admitted the injury looks serious and said a diagnosis is pending before a decision is made. He noted that World Cup rules allow a replacement until 24 hours before Germany’s opening match on June 14 against Curaçao. Karl’s absence could reshape the midfield plan built around his talent for the upcoming tournament season ahead.

Karl debuted for Germany in March and starred in a 4‑0 win over Finland last week, showcasing his growth. Bayern’s record as the club’s youngest goal‑scorer in the Champions League added weight to his profile. Losing him before the tournament would dent Germany’s offensive options and force Nagelsmann to adjust tactics for the team ahead.

Nagelsmann also confirmed he will not risk 40‑year‑old Manuel Neuer against the United States due to a lingering calf injury, leaving Neuer absent from international play for almost two years. Oliver Baumann has been the first‑choice keeper during Neuer’s absence and started against Finland. Germany’s squad depth will be tested as the tournament approaches soon.
