The Boston Bruins announced Thursday they'll retire Patrice Bergeron's No. 37 during a ceremony next season, with the specific date coming after July's NHL schedule release. Bergeron becomes the 14th player in franchise history to receive this honor, joining fellow 2011 Stanley Cup champion Zdeno Chara in the rafters.

Bergeron spent all 19 NHL seasons with Boston, playing 1,464 games across regular season and playoffs. His career included the 2011 championship run plus Finals appearances in 2013 and 2019. Owner Jeremy Jacobs called him a 'rare, generational talent' and 'the undeniable greatest defensive forward in the NHL's history.'

After succeeding Chara as captain in 2020, Bergeron led the team for three seasons before retiring. 'When I arrived in Boston as an 18-year-old, I could never have imagined receiving this recognition,' Bergeron said. He credited teammates, coaches, and organizational support for his success.

The retirement ceremony next season will celebrate one of the Bruins' most respected players, whose defensive excellence and leadership defined two decades in Boston. This honor recognizes not just individual achievement but Bergeron's role in transforming the franchise into a consistent contender.
