The Minnesota Timberwolves will retire Kevin Garnett's No. 21 jersey on Feb. 28, following a game against the Boston Celtics. This marks the second jersey retirement for the 15-time All-Star, as the Celtics previously retired his No. 5 in March 2022.

The Timberwolves announced their intention to honor Garnett in December after he rejoined the franchise as a team ambassador. Garnett expressed his deep connection to Minnesota, stating, "This is where it all started for me, so seeing No. 21 go up in Target Center and sharing that moment with the fans, my family, teammates, coaches, and everyone who's been part of this journey means everything." He sees this as a "new beginning" and the "start of the next chapter in Minnesota."

Garnett had been estranged from the Timberwolves since his retirement in 2016 due to issues with former owner Glen Taylor. He reconciled with current governors Marc Lore and Alex Rodriguez, who are in the process of buying the team. Lore and Rodriguez stated, "Retiring No. 21 is the ultimate recognition of everything he has meant to this franchise and our fans."

Throughout his career, Garnett led the Timberwolves in points, rebounds, assists, steals, and blocks, and is their only MVP winner. The team also plans "KG Theme Nights" throughout the season, starting with one honoring his draft night on December 16 against the Los Angeles Lakers. This will be only the second jersey retirement in Timberwolves history, after Malik Sealy's No. 2.
