The Minnesota Wild locked up Michael McCarron on Tuesday, signing the veteran forward to a six-year, $20 million extension that keeps him off the free agent market. McCarron, 31, arrived via trade from Nashville in early March and immediately provided physical presence for a team needing depth.

After joining the Wild in March, McCarron appeared in 20 regular-season games and posted career-best numbers across multiple categories. The 6-foot-6 center recorded 109 shots on goal, 205 hits and 77 blocked shots - all personal highs that demonstrated his value as a checking-line contributor.

He continued that strong play into the postseason, contributing two goals and two assists over 11 playoff games while leading the team with 14 blocked shots. McCarron also won 54.5% of his faceoffs, providing Minnesota with reliable center depth behind their top lines.

The late-blooming forward originally went first round to Montreal in 2013 but didn't find his role until later in his career. After earning $900,000 on his expiring deal, the $3.33 million annual cap hit represents a significant raise for a player who proved his worth during the Wild's playoff push.
