Veteran cornerback Darius Slay officially announced his retirement from the NFL on Monday after 13 seasons in professional football. The 35-year-old six-time Pro Bowler concluded his career with 28 interceptions and 163 passes defended. Slay took to social media to express his gratitude, writing "This game put me in a position to take care of my family and loved ones and I'm forever grateful. It's hard to say goodbye, but God has a new chapter for me."

Slay's final NFL season came with the Pittsburgh Steelers, where he started 9 of 10 games in 2024, recording 36 tackles, three passes defensed, and a fumble recovery. After being released by the Eagles following their Super Bowl victory, Slay was briefly claimed by the Buffalo Bills on waivers last December but chose not to report, with his agent Drew Rosenhaus revealing the cornerback was contemplating his future at that time.

Beginning his career with the Detroit Lions after being selected in the second round of the 2013 draft out of Mississippi State, Slay developed into one of the league's premier cornerbacks. His 2017 season earned him first-team All-Pro honors before he joined the Eagles, where he would eventually secure his championship ring. His career statistics of 655 tackles, 28 interceptions, and 163 passes defended solidify his place among the defensive backs of his generation.
