ESPN's seventh annual ranking of NFL players by position is out, with Patrick Surtain of the Denver Broncos dominating the cornerback list. Surtain secured over 75% of first-place votes, with one coordinator calling him a "generational player" and the "best player on the field by far" during the AFC Championship Game. Despite a shoulder injury that cost him three games in 2025, he deflected 12 passes and allowed only one reception for 8 yards against Ja'Marr Chase in Week 4.

Second on the list is Derek Stingley Jr. of the Houston Texans, lauded for his ball production and instincts. Stingley leads all NFL cornerbacks with 14 interceptions since 2023 and has made consecutive All-Pro teams. His zone vision and ability to make plays on 50-50 balls were highlighted.

The New England Patriots' Christian Gonzalez landed at No. 3, impressing with his size and speed, though some scouts question his physicality. He allowed a mere 38.8% completion rate in the postseason. Following him is Devon Witherspoon of the Seattle Seahawks at No. 4, praised for his versatility and impact both inside and outside. The Los Angeles Rams' Trent McDuffie rounds out the top five, recognized for his coverage skills and durability, despite his size leading some to view him as a slot specialist. McDuffie is currently on a four-year, $124 million contract.
