NFL Sued Over Gambling Addiction Claims by FanDuel DraftKings

A lawsuit filed in Pennsylvania accuses FanDuel and DraftKings of exploiting NFL data to fuel gambling addiction among two plaintiffs. The suit names the NFL, Genius Sports, and five VIP hosts as defendants, alleging they used live betting data and personal perks to encourage excessive wagering that led to severe gambling disorders.

Attorneys claim micro-betting data from the NFL's official feed made gambling more addictive. Christopher Sage and Terry Thompson lost over $2 million combined to the sportsbooks. Thompson received Super Bowl tickets and champagne from his FanDuel host, while Sage got Atlantic City accommodations arranged by DraftKings representatives. Both men had gambled responsibly for nearly two decades before micro-betting apps changed their behavior.

The complaint details troubling interactions between hosts and problem gamblers. Thompson's FanDuel host suggested breaks after losses but later texted about an 'emergency' that turned out to be Super Bowl tickets. Sage placed himself on Pennsylvania's self-exclusion list in March 2025 but continued receiving VIP messages. The plaintiffs seek damages, attorney fees, and an injunction against the alleged predatory practices.
