Philadelphia Phillies star Bryce Harper stated Monday that he did not consent to FanDuel's use of a personalized video he created for a customer, Terry Thompson. Thompson is suing FanDuel, alleging the sportsbook exploited his gambling addiction, leading to approximately $2 million in losses. Harper explained he accepted a Cameo request in November 2024 to record a "holiday video for Terry" and was unaware of FanDuel's intent to use it for a VIP promotion or the customer's betting habits.

"I did not know FanDuel would do this," Harper wrote on Instagram. "I did not consent to it, and FanDuel had no right to do it." He added he would not have made the video had he known about FanDuel's "true intent" or "Terry or his situation." The lawsuit also names Draft Kings, the NFL, and Genius Sports, claiming these entities contributed to Thompson's addiction.

FanDuel stated its employees are trained to "recognize and flag signs of problem gambling and offer resources and tools." The company is reviewing and strengthening its policies for consumer protection. Major League Baseball's collective bargaining agreement permits players to engage in sportsbook promotions, provided they do not authorize the use of their likeness or promote betting on baseball. The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board is reviewing the matter.
