Giants' Malik Nabers Aims for Week 1 Return After Second Knee Surgery

New York Giants wide receiver Malik Nabers underwent a second procedure on his right knee this offseason, a cleanup surgery to remove scar tissue that was causing stiffness. The 22-year-old is recovering from a torn ACL and full meniscus repair suffered in September. Malik Nabers caught a franchise-record 109 passes for 1,204 yards and seven touchdowns during his record-breaking rookie season in 2024.

The Giants remain optimistic that Nabers will be ready for their Week 1 opener against the Dallas Cowboys on September 13. New York initially hoped he'd return for training camp in late July, but that timeline has been pushed back due to recovery complications. Nabers was walking with a hands-free crutch in January and dealt with persistent knee stiffness throughout rehabilitation.

The team reshaped their receiving corps this offseason, adding Darnell Mooney and Calvin Austin III in free agency while trading up to select Malachi Fields in the draft. Veteran Darius Slayton also recently underwent core muscle surgery. Nabers had 18 catches for 271 yards and two touchdowns before his injury in Week 4 against the Chargers during his sophomore season.

Nabers' 127 receptions through his first 19 games rank second in NFL history to Odell Beckham for most through 20 games. His recovery timeline will be critical for a Giants passing attack that lost leading receiver Wan'Dale Robinson to the Titans in free agency.
