Soroka, Lawlar out: D‑Backs lose key starters

Arizona lost another starter Saturday, as right‑hander Michael Soroka hit the 15‑day injured list with a strained right glute. The move comes after he exited Friday’s win over Minnesota following warm‑up pitches. Soroka, 28, tops the club’s rotation with an 8‑3 record and a 3.07 ERA in 15 starts.

Meanwhile, utilityman Jordan Lawlar re‑joined the IL with a strained right hamstring, adding to the lineup’s woes. Lawlar, who returned last week from a fractured right wrist, was batting .316 with a homer in 38 at‑bats before the setback. The Diamondbacks recalled Philip Abner and Tim Tawa from Triple‑A Reno to fill gaps.

Soroka joins right‑hander Ryne Nelson, sidelined earlier this week with a sprained UCL, and Corbin Burnes, who suffered a setback after last year’s Tommy John surgery. Burnes’ strained teres major muscle will keep him out until September at the earliest. With two starters gone, Arizona now carries 10 relievers.

The double injury blow deprives Arizona of its most reliable arm and a versatile bench player, tightening the roster and forcing a heavier reliance on bullpen depth. Manager Torey Lovullo said the team will need to adjust strategies for the remainder of the season. Fans will watch how the D‑Backs rebuild their rotation amid a crowded pitching market.
