Jordan Montgomery has agreed to a one-year contract to rejoin the Texas Rangers, three years after helping them win their first World Series title, a source told ESPN. The left-hander continues rehabbing from his second elbow reconstruction surgery, having undergone Tommy John surgery in 2018 and again last March.

Montgomery's deal is worth $1.25 million plus potential performance bonuses. The 33-year-old had a turbulent 2024 season with Arizona, posting a 6.23 ERA in 117 innings while battling a knee injury. His previous $25 million contract with the Diamondbacks drew harsh criticism from owner Ken Kendrick before Montgomery exercised his $22.5 million option for 2025.

The Rangers acquired Montgomery at the 2023 trade deadline from St. Louis, where he went 4-2 with a 2.79 ERA in 11 regular-season games. He then shined in the postseason, winning two AL Championship Series games including the Game 7 clincher that sent Texas to the World Series. His return adds depth to a Rangers rotation seeking to defend their championship.
