Corey Seager took live batting practice Sunday for the first time since the Texas Rangers shortstop was sidelined by a back injury for the second time this season on July 1. He finished the session with a home run and planned to take live BP again Monday before a possible minor‑league rehab assignment.

Manager Skip Schumaker said a possible rehab stint is “just tough to mimic some in‑game stuff.” He added that it’s up to the player and that they'll discuss it after seeing how Seager feels. Seager was removed from a game at Toronto in the first inning on June 30 because of back discomfort.

The five‑time All‑Star has been limited to 51 games this season, hitting .182 with 10 home runs and 25 RBIs. Seager was 0‑for‑27 on a slide, the worst of his career, when he was sidelined by the back injury the first time. After returning from a concussion, he played three games before his back flared up again.

The Rangers are also hopeful for the return of left‑handers Jordan Montgomery and Cody Bradford, who have not pitched in the majors since 2024. Montgomery underwent a second elbow reconstruction last year and rejoined the Rangers on a one‑year contract, while Bradford had elbow surgery in June 2025 and was shut down during spring training.
