Guardians Reinforce Bullpen and Bench Ahead of Cardinals Series

The Cleveland Guardians activated right‑hander Hunter Gaddis and outfielder George Valera from the injured list ahead of a three‑game stretch versus the St. Louis Cardinals. Gaddis, who returned from a 15‑day IL after a shoulder issue, has posted a 2.29 ERA across 151 appearances last two seasons. Valera, still finding his footing, hit .220 with two homers in 41 at‑bats.

Manager Stephen Vogt welcomed Gaddis back, noting his ability to jam the bullpen during a 13‑game, 13‑day stretch that included a doubleheader on April 5. Adding Valera, who can play both corner spots, gives the club extra power potential and depth. The move also clears a roster spot for the return of other pieces.

In a corresponding shuffle, the Guardians optioned infielder CJ Kayfus to Triple‑A Columbus and designated left‑hander Kolby Allard for assignment. Kayfus, a young prospect, will continue developing in the minors while the team tightens its roster for the coming series. Allard’s departure opens a slot for a potential bullpen upgrade.

With Gaddis’s return, the Guardians’ bullpen gains a reliable setup arm, while Valera’s offensive upside offers fresh options off the bench. The roster moves signal a focus on depth and performance as the team gears up for a pivotal stretch against a competitive Cardinals squad.
