Guardians Activate Chase DeLauter from Injured List After Rib Fracture Recovery

Cleveland Guardians activated rookie outfielder Chase DeLauter from the injured list ahead of Sunday's finale against Seattle, starting him at designated hitter and batting third. DeLauter missed three weeks after fracturing a rib on his right side during a collision with the outfield wall in a June 13 game against Detroit.

The same outing that injured DeLauter also sidelined José Ramírez and Angel Martínez, leaving Cleveland shorthanded. Ramírez underwent surgery on his left hand and will miss six more weeks, while Martínez deals with a foot fracture. The Guardians have struggled without their All-Star third baseman, posting a 4-7 record in his absence.

DeLauter brings promising offensive numbers back to the lineup, hitting .263 with seven homers and 34 RBIs through 66 games. His .337 on-base percentage shows solid plate discipline for a rookie. Outfielder Petey Halpin was optioned to Triple-A Columbus to clear roster space.

Cleveland needs DeLauter's bat to help stabilize an offense that has managed just 42 runs during their recent skid. The rookie's return provides a much-needed boost while the team waits for Ramírez's eventual comeback.
