Chase DeLauter broke out of a prolonged slump with a go-ahead, three-run triple in the eighth inning, lifting the Cleveland Guardians to an 8-5 victory over the Houston Astros on Tuesday night. The rookie had been mired in a 7-for-47 stretch before delivering the biggest hit of his young career.

DeLauter began the season on fire, blasting five home runs in his first seven games and batting .346. However, opposing pitchers adjusted their approach, and his average plummeted to .211 entering Tuesday. Manager Stephen Vogt maintained confidence in the 22-year-old, keeping him in the two-hole between All-Stars Steven Kwan and José Ramírez.

The triple was DeLauter's first career three-bagger, scoring Angel Martínez, Brayan Rocchio and Kwan. The Guardians had been 0-10 when trailing after seven innings before scoring six in the eighth to improve to 4-2 on their homestand. "Good hitters use the whole field, and cool moment for him," Vogt said. "Obviously, a huge hit for us. We needed a comeback win like that tonight."
