Guardians test Kwan in center field during spring training

The Cleveland Guardians are experimenting with Steven Kwan in center field this spring, manager Stephen Vogt revealed. The four-time Gold Glove winner, known for his excellence in left field, has expressed interest in playing center occasionally as Vogt evaluates the best outfield configuration for the upcoming season.

Kwan, who has played just eight major league games in center despite primarily playing there in the minors, joins rookie Chase DeLauter as potential options in the outfield. DeLauter showed both promise and growing pains in last season's Wild Card series, dropping a fly ball but also making a precise throw to third base. George Valera is expected to see time in left field during Cactus League games.

This positional flexibility comes as the Guardians seek to optimize both defense and offense after winning their second consecutive AL Central Division title. With Kwan and José Ramírez serving as the team's primary offensive threats last season, Vogt emphasized the importance of finding the right balance. The manager noted it could take a couple weeks before Kwan gets his first look in center field during spring training games.
