The Milwaukee Brewers tied the modern-era record for the largest shutout with a 22-0 rout of the Seattle Mariners on Tuesday night. Despite ranking last in baseball with 117 home runs this season, the Brewers showcased their power with three-run homers from Christian Yelich, David Hamilton, and Luis Lara, plus a two-run shot by Jake Bauers. The 78-48 Brewers matched their franchise record for runs in a game, also achieved on August 28, 1992, against Toronto. Milwaukee recorded a season-high 22 hits and executed a crucial double steal in the fifth inning to break open a tight game.

Seattle manager Dan Wilson noted before the game that the Brewers excel in multiple areas, including putting pressure on the bases and hitting home runs. Brewer manager Pat Murphy praised the performance but acknowledged it's difficult to replicate nightly.

Lara's first career home run came off a 37 mph pitch from Mariners position player Leo Rivas in the eighth inning. The 21-year-old rookie received good-natured ribbing from teammates about the circumstances of his milestone moment. Bauers and Yelich encouraged Lara to embrace the achievement, emphasizing that every home run counts regardless of who's pitching.

The Brewers also used position player Gary Sanchez to pitch a scoreless ninth inning, drawing cheers from the announced crowd of 36,870. Sanchez, primarily a catcher, has made two pitching appearances this season, both scoreless.
