Lorena Wiebes clinched the opening stage of the Women’s Tour de France on Saturday, taking the lead. The flat 85-mile ride began and ended in Lausanne, Switzerland, and swept past two lakes nestled in the Swiss Alps. SD Worx-Protime rider Wiebes sprinted to victory, with France’s Kim Le Court in second and Dutchman Demi Vollering third after a fierce battle for the lead.

"Wiebes said, \"I can\'t believe it. The SD Worx-Protime team worked super hard. Demi attacked, I thought, *I need to follow.* It was a super-long sprint.\"" She credited team support and her own endurance in navigating the fast finish.

The race, now in its fifth edition, will cover 730 miles over nine days, heading into southern France. A challenging ascent of Mont Ventoux is scheduled for Friday, with the final stage ending in Nice on the French Riviera. Last year’s champion Pauline Ferrand‑Prevôt finished eighth, while Vuelta winner Paula Blasi placed 12th.
