Rory McIlroy believes Scottie Scheffler is the clear choice for PGA Tour Player of the Year, despite his own strong season. "No, I'm not the player of the year," McIlroy said at Bellerive Country Club, site of the BMW Championship. "No chance. Scottie is."

Scheffler, the world No. 1, won the FedEx St. Jude Championship by eight strokes at TPC Southwind. His victory marked his second win of the season after a lengthy winless drought since January. Despite the gap between wins, Scheffler remained the tour's most consistent golfer in 2026, finishing top 25 in all but one of 18 starts.

Leading the tour in strokes gained: total (2.374) and tee to green (1.694), Scheffler also ranks third in putting (.680). He tops greens in regulation (72.9%), scrambling (67.5%), and scoring average (67.9%). Viktor Hovland praised Scheffler's consistency, noting improvements in his putting from previous seasons.

In just his seventh season, Scheffler is approaching Tiger Woods' career on-course earnings record, sitting about $1 million behind with approximately $119.9 million earned.
