Dallas Wings star guard Azzi Fudd, the No. 1 pick in this year's WNBA draft, will undergo an arthroscopic procedure on her right knee in Connecticut early next week, ending her rookie season. Fudd last played on Aug. 5 and has missed Dallas' past five games. In an Instagram story, Fudd thanked fans and outlined her recovery plan: "I know exactly what comes next: rehab, put in the work, come back ready and better than before."

The sharpshooting guard averaged 13.1 points, 1.7 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 1.7 steals (fifth in the league), and 0.8 blocks in 30 appearances this year. She led the Wings with a plus-13.1 net rating, ranks fourth in rookie scoring, and first in made 3-pointers among first-year players. In July, Fudd became the first rookie in league history to win the WNBA 3-point contest.

Fudd previously tore her ACL and meniscus in the same knee in 2023, and the same ACL and MCL in 2019. Despite an injury-riddled college career at UConn, she appeared in 34 of 40 games during their 2025 national championship run and all 39 games her final season. The Wings have doubled their win total from last year but have struggled post-All-Star break, going 2-7 since then and currently holding the eighth playoff spot.
