Wings Draft Fudd Amid Relationship Questions

Dallas Wings made it clear they wouldn't address personal questions about newly drafted Azzi Fudd and teammate Paige Bueckers during Thursday's introductory news conference. When asked about their relationship, a Wings PR staffer interrupted, stating they would "respectfully decline from commenting on our players' personal lives." Fudd, the No. 1 pick in the WNBA draft, fielded numerous basketball-related questions while avoiding the topic that overshadowed the event.

The Wings have struggled recently, tying for the league's worst record last season at 10-34. Fudd averaged 17.3 points on 47% shooting at UConn, while Bueckers, last year's top pick, averaged 19.2 points, 5.4 assists and 3.9 rebounds en route to winning Rookie of the Year. Both players overlapped at UConn and won a national championship together before turning pro.

Wings general manager Curt Miller explained the team's deliberate process in selecting Fudd, calling her "a winner, competitor, hard worker" with "an incredible shooter -- probably one of the quickest releases in the game today." Miller emphasized the team's intention to rebuild around Fudd's elite skills and intangible qualities after a difficult 2024-2025 season.
