Georgia Tech Fires Damon Stoudamire After ACC Last-Place Finish

Georgia Tech has dismissed men's basketball coach Damon Stoudamire after a disastrous season that ended with an 11-20 record and a 12-game losing streak. Sources told ESPN the decision came after the Yellow Jackets finished last in the ACC with a 2-16 conference record, marking another failure to achieve consistent success in Atlanta.

Stoudamire, a former Arizona star and NBA player, went 42-55 over three seasons in Atlanta. His tenure included a memorable upset of No. 7 Duke in his first ACC game but also a 17-17 season followed by this year's collapse. The move comes early in first-year athletic director Ryan Alpert's tenure, who was hired from Tennessee in July.

Georgia Tech owes Stoudamire $2.6 million over the next two seasons under his contract, though that amount could be offset if he takes another coaching position. The program has made just one NCAA tournament appearance since 2010, and this firing represents another attempt to revitalize a basketball program that has struggled to find footing in the competitive ACC landscape.
